Goodbye Room 153.

I’m graduating and leaving this fine university in a matter of days, and last night I received a note under my door from the girl who has been assigned to move in this room when I’m gone. She asked if I could please email her and let her know when I’m moving out. Sure. No problem. So I try the address she has given me. It’s sent back. I try to look her up on people search. Nothing. She has told me her last name is “Thronton”, and her email address contains a portion of her last name.  I think to myself…this is a very funny last name. Thornton I’ve heard, Thronton not so much. So out of curiosity I people search “Thornton.” Lo and behold, there she is…same first name, living in the same dorm this girl is supposed to be transferring from.

What I’m telling you here, folks, is that the girl has misspelled her own last time. Twice. She told me her full name and misspelled it, and then misspelled it when telling me her email address. I thought I would try and email her with the correct address that I found on people search, but I’m going to have to give it some time before I’m going to be able to do this without making a snide remark.

Oh my.

Yahoooooooo!

I’ve been avoiding listening to any live cuts from the new Alanis album. Well, Underneath and Not as We don’t count because they’ve been available for…well, 7 months and 1 year respectively. But since she started playing some new songs on the MB20 tour I haven’t been listening on purpose. I just want to hear the new songs fresh in good quality when the album comes out…I’m building suspense, you know. But she filmed this Yahoo thing on the 24th, so I had to check it out. And she did one I hadn’t heard but I figured since it was an official video it would be okay to cheat and watch it. It’s called Incomplete. All I can say is that she continues to amaze me.
The Yahoo thing isn’t up on YouTube yet, but here’s a pretty good quality video of it.

To check out the Yahoo thing go here.

Meet the Twilight characters.

Kudos to MTV for all of their coverage of the Twilight movie thus far, and for posting the very first official promo video from Summit. This is by far the best thing I’ve ever seen.

If I’d never heard of Twilight I think I would want to see the movie based on that video. There’s fighting and evil and love and superhuman strength and blood and more love and baseball. Basically everything you need for a good story.

Virgin Suicides.

So, I saw The Virgin Suicides pretty nearly when it first came out. I hated it.

Flash foreward a few years, I see the book at Half Price Books. I purchase it for a few reasons. 1, everyone I’ve ever know that has read it has loved it. 2, the book generally is better than the movie. 3, I was 15 or so when I saw the movie…maybe the brilliance just went over my head or something. 4, Jeffrey Eugenides did go on to win a Pulitzer. And 5, it was on clearance for one dollar.

I have to tell you, I’m bored to tears. I was hanging in there until around the 5th page of drivel about Trip Fontaine.
I want to keep reading because I just keep thinking it has to get better. Surely, something will happen soon. But I don’t have precious pleasure reading time to waste on stupid books. So I need some advice. Continue reading, or toss it? Surely some random person who has read this book will happen upon this page, and when you do, Random Stranger….please weigh in on my dilemma.

Is this how the gods reward the faithful through the ages?

I found this video a couple days ago and I’ve been watching it over and over since then. I think everyone should watch it because a) Heather Headley is a badass, b) the character Aida is a badass and these are precisely the facial expressions I imagine for her when I listen to this song, and c) Tim Rice has a knack for writing stirring lyrics for Disney.

btw, I heard rumors of an Aida movie in a couple years. I heard Beyonce Knowles for Aida and Christina Aguelera for Amneris. Um…yeaaah. That’s all I’ll say about that.

If you left it up to me, every day would be a holiday from real!

I’ve got spring fever like woah. I’m so sick of wearing sweaters, so today, in protest, despite the fact that it’s 40 degrees outside, I’m wearing a sleeveless top.

It’s the first day of spring, and of my spring break no. 2! I was pretty bummed since I was supposed to be in Florida by tomorrow, but it didn’t work out. So today, I’m bringing Florida to me, and it’s working out nicely. This is mostly due to the fact that I’m pretty skilled at selective denial. It’s something I’ve worked hard at over the years and today it’s coming in handy. In my mind it’s at least 70 degrees today. I’m listening to Jack’s Mannequin, which screams summer to me, and I’m about to finish up packing and head to Starbucks to do a little reading for pleasure before I have to go to seminar. Heck, I may even go all out and get an iced drink while I’m there. I urge you all to join me in my delusions. Put on a tank top and slather on some sunscreen, it’s a beautiful day!

Gotta go find my sunglasses. Happy spring. :)

I think it’s time for a Twilight tag.

Yesterday I was able to look at pictures of the Twilight movie set. (Lexicon.)

I’ve now officially seen Bella’s truck, Charlie’s police cruiser, Carlisle’s Mercedes, Emmet’s Jeep, Edward’s Volvo (I peed a little), Forks High, and the baseball diamond. I’m so excited. It’s just as exciting as if they were actual characters just cast. I’m particularly excited about the baseball diamond because to me it looks perfectly as I imagined it.

Then today I did something I almost never do. I was on such a high from the pictures yesterday that when I saw a clip of the filming, I couldn’t resist clicking on it. It’s a kind of far away angle, but it’s of the scene directly after the crash. So I’ve now officially seen Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen. (Holy smokes.) But it raised one question, which I’ll cut in case someone doesn’t want to know anything that might be spoilery.

Click for my possibly spoilery observations.

I think it’s official! Via this article (which contains a picture in which she looks gorgeous by the way), and now Amazon , the release date for Alanis’s new album, Flavors of Entanglement, is May 20. ::does cartwheels:: I needed some news like that this week.
The weeks to come are sure to be filled with exciting tidbits like track listings, first singles, and official videos. ::squeals::

It’s funny cause it’s true.

I adore xkcd.com

You can identify them ahead-of-time -- they lead with their left foot when the music starts.

A jolly happy soul.

I awoke this morning to find that sometime during the night my fellow residents had fashioned a large penis out of snow, complete with branches of a shrub protruding from its foundation. I went to bed at midnight, the lawn was clear. I awoke at 7:30, and it was adorned with phallic snow sculptures. I would truly like to know when, between the hours of midnight and 7:30, my fellow undergraduates find the time to assert such ingenuity. I would like to know which course of study at this fine university affords such idle time. Were I to have more than 24 weeks of undergraduate coursework before me, I would give serious consideration to a change in program- though I would spend my leisure on more respectable projects, such as the giant happy snowman erected by our neighboring fraternity house. Or, more likely, more pointless blog entries.
