And it’s 1,2,3 strikes you’re out…
I’m usually not too keen on sports analogies, and that’s usually because I don’t get them. But I read one today in my “Education in a Pluralistic Society” textbook that I thought was great. The chapter is about poverty, and the particular passage was talking about how children from low-income families are often disadvantaged in schools due to the relative amount of say, an urban school’s (small) budget that must be expended on meeting the much greater psychological and social needs of children in poverty. So it was just talking about how despite the severity of the issue Americans seem completely oblivious to the impact of poverty. The quote was this: “We were born on third base and we think we hit triples.” I think that’s funny, and morbidly truthful.
