I’ve been avoiding listening to any live cuts from the new Alanis album. Well, Underneath and Not as We don’t count because they’ve been available for…well, 7 months and 1 year respectively. But since she started playing some new songs on the MB20 tour I haven’t been listening on purpose. I just want to hear the new songs fresh in good quality when the album comes out…I’m building suspense, you know. But she filmed this Yahoo thing on the 24th, so I had to check it out. And she did one I hadn’t heard but I figured since it was an official video it would be okay to cheat and watch it. It’s called Incomplete. All I can say is that she continues to amaze me.

I think it’s official! Via this article (which contains a picture in which she looks gorgeous by the way), and now Amazon , the release date for Alanis’s new album, Flavors of Entanglement, is May 20. ::does cartwheels:: I needed some news like that this week.
The weeks to come are sure to be filled with exciting tidbits like track listings, first singles, and official videos. ::squeals::

Well, the Underneath video has been removed from Youtube due to a copyright claim from Warner Bros. Records. Blah! It did hit almost 10,000 views in just the three days it was up, though. :)

Also, recently added to Youtube is the Charlie Rose interview from ‘99. Not a real exciting interview overall. She seems painfully uncomfortable much of the time. It’s really only notable, to me anyway, because this is the interview where she talks about her experience with Catholicism and throwing the God baby out with the bath water, which I think is brilliant. (Around 23 min 30 sec, Bran.)

A second Charlie Rose video I’m happy is available is this one with PJ, Elijah, and Viggo, filmed around the release of TTT. I had this on VHS somewhere, but it’s long gone now, and we all know I could watch these guys for days. :) The LotR portion of the show begins around 17 min.

I don’t really get the video, but I love the song. Very SCC to me.

I never get in the mood to blog unless it’s very late and I have to be up very early. But there are a few things I feel compelled to say.

1. I am loving summer. I love my job and I love my friends and I love my family and I love Starbucks and that’s pretty much my summer in a nutshell. It’s pretty sweet.

2. I’m seeing Wicked in CBus tomorrow for the second time in a week, and that makes me very very excited.

3. Nothing makes me happier than seeing Alanis related searches linking to this blog and getting comments about Alanis from random people. I don’t know you, but I love you random people.  

After pretty much nooothing in 2006, save one performance of Wunderkind on Leno, Alanis had been pretty much off the radar until My Humps emerged on Youtube in April. I’m not going to say how happy I am that it looks like she’s starting to reemerge becausethat might jinx it. I am, however, going to say how I’m positively ELATED that she did a show at Hotel Cafe on the 24th of April. Just a small set at the cd release party for The Nightwatchman. She did Sister Blister, a couple other covers, and…brace yourself, folks. A brand spankin’ new song, called “Not as We.” And thanks to some sweet soul who flew in from Costa Rica to see the show, it popped up on Youtube yesterday.

I’m practically floating around the room right now I’m so excited, seriously. It’s a great song. Some of the lyrics I’m still trying to decipher, but the chorus is:

She looks radiant and confident and vulnerable and she wavers on a couple notes, which I find raw and endearing considering this is the first time she’s sang the song publicly. And especially considering what we can probably assume is the inspiration for it given the lyrics and the fairly recent tabloids.
She says “Guy [piano player] and I have been sequesterd in London and in LA writing a bevy of songs, and this is our little coming out party. Coming out of what, we don’t know. “
